Why did Jesus go to the cross? Simple answer, JOY.
Hebrews12:1-2, Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
You want joy? Try to not focus on what hurts, what breaks your heart, what gets between you and God, and concentrate on the joy of abiding with Him at the end of the race.
Why? First, because you desire joy in your life, and besides people are watching you. He, Jesus, who wrote the book on faith, endured the cross for the joy set before Him. If we want others to want what we have, we must show them a life worth living.
How do I do that? John 15 gives us a clear formula from Jesus himself, for joy. Keep His commands, thereby remaining His love. Follow my example. When we concentrate on the end result and not the potholes in the road, the trip will be much more worthwhile.
John 15:10, If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11, These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
What kind of Joy will I have? The joy of Jesus, that will remain, and be made full in Him.
Instead of being fine, under the circumstances, get out from under there and focus on our Champion who had joy in the journey, because of His beautiful goal.
Lord, please make it so in me.
