Mother
We stood around her, as she lay there in her bed,
my sister, her husband, and I.
All the family had gathered round, with their love to surround,
but now they had gone home to get some rest.
Had we known it was her time, they would all have been in line,
but somehow, just the three of us, were left.
I thought about the years, as I looked down through the tears,
at the mother I had cherished all my time.
Now frail as she lay sleeping, she couldn't hear us weeping,
but we knew her time to go was drawing near.
A kiss upon her forehead as she breathed her final breath,
the nurse confirmed she'd made her journey home.
We joined hands above her, as we prayed for all who loved her,
and for ourselves to hold up and be strong
And then my mind reflected, that now we were expected,
to face the world, without our mothers care.
We had no doubts or worry's, though our minds were in a flurry
for she'd given her whole life just for this day.
She fed our growing bodies, made sure we did our studies,
but those were not the things that helped us now.
She'd taken us to church, for that was her life's work,
and that was what we leaned upon today.
She knew that introducing, the loving God she knew,
would give us all that we would really need.
Our faith it would sustain us, wherever life would lead us,
He would care for us, and keep us till that day.
We'd enter heaven praising, for our Lord and for his saving,
and for our precious mother ,who had shown us the way.
She lived her life and blessed us, with faith in God she left us,
till the day the Lord would bring us all together once again.
