The Angel in the Corner

Updated: Jun 4, 2022

The angel stood across the room, wings folded in repose,

While demons danced so close, that I could smell them in my clothes

This angel is not impotent, Oh no, he is quite strong,

The demons knew the reason that he stood there all alone.

Just a casual conversation with this woman I had met,

Yet something in her eyes told me that I should get away.

I sat there in a battle between my sinful man and me,

My lustful will, was holding my angel still at bay.

My will had told the angel, stand back, let me do my thing,

It overcame all fears I had inside.

It trampled all the scripture that the Spirit brought to mind,

Ran roughshod over all attempts to quell my foolish pride

Then I looked past the woman with those smoldering eyes,

Near the front door stood a group that I knew well

My wife, my kids, and Jesus, He was comforting their cries

Be gone, one sin will not put me in hell

Jesus stood there without speaking, but His Spirit stronger still,

Began to reason with my sinful mind

You know that you belong to Me, and that you always will,

However, it's my peace that you'll be leaving far behind.

He spoke in silent words within my conflicted head,

My conscience slowly winning over will.

I prayed Oh, Lord forgive my thoughts and take your place again,

Please come and be my comforter and friend.

The angel drew his sword and then began to spread his wings,

The demons ducked in fear and turned to flee.

I looked back at the woman sitting right there next to me,

Her beauty now had no effect on me.

Those moments I could spend with her flashed across my mind

The sin would have been fun, but then the lie

"The fun will last forever if you just give in this once,"

Then the Lord reminds, the price is much too high

At home, the door swung open, my children grabbed my legs

My wife, a kiss hello with loving smile

I hold them as if I've been upon a journey far away

I let this peace surround me for a while

The angel stands across the room, wings folded in repose,

The demons that had plagued me now far away.

Jesus, saved me for eternity, that I know quite well,

Thank You also for salvation for today.
